Qualifications

  • City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Bench Joinery (Year 1)
  • City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Site Carpentry (Year 2)
  • City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Site Carpentry (Year 3)
  • City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Bench Joinery (Year 4) or
  • CIOB Level 3 Diploma in Construction Site Supervisory Studies (Year 4)
  • Certificate of Apprenticeship

Course duration/location

The recommended time for completion of this course is four years.

You will attend College at Coutanchez Campus for one day a week for off-the-job training.


Course Entry

Apprenticeships are available to all.

You will be assessed for suitability using online tests, with support and guidance provided.

If you have not achieved maths or English at C/4/Level 2, you will study these subjects alongside your apprenticeship.

Failure to complete maths and English will prevent progression between apprenticeship levels or achieving your overall apprenticeship.

Entry to the Level 3 qualification depends on successful completion of the Level 2 Diploma.

Course Content

Level 2 Diploma in Bench Joinery

  • Health, safety, and welfare in construction
  • Set up and operate a circular saw
  • Produce setting out details for bench joinery products
  • Mark out from setting out details for bench joinery products
  • Manufacture bench joinery products

Level 2 Diploma in Site Carpentry

  • Principles of building construction, information, and communication
  • Carry out first fix flooring and roofing
  • Carry out first fix frames, partitions, and stairs
  • Carry out second fixing operations
  • Carry out carpentry maintenance

Level 3 Diploma in Site Carpentry

  • Principles of organising, planning, and pricing construction work
  • Carry out first fix roofing and stairs
  • Carry out second fixing double doors and mouldings

Level 3 Diploma in Bench Joinery

  • Set up and use fixed and transportable machinery
  • Manufacture shaped doors and frames
  • Manufacture stairs with turns

Level 3 CIOB Diploma in Construction Site Supervisory Studies

  • Supervising health, safety, welfare, and environment of construction works

Plus five of the following six optional units:

  • Planning construction works
  • Organising and controlling construction works
  • Maintaining the dimensional accuracy of construction works
  • Working with people on a construction site
  • Supervising construction works to existing buildings and structures
  • Supervising the construction of new buildings and structures

After successfully completing your Level 3 apprenticeship, you will be prepared to apply for further study programmes such as:

  • Level 3 CIOB Diploma in Construction Site Supervisory Studies
  • Level 3 Extended Certificate in Construction and the Built Environment
  • Level 4 HNC in Construction

The apprenticeship also prepares you for roles with greater responsibilities in carpentry and joinery.
