GO project success

First group from our partnership with GO completes the programme

The pilot project run in conjunction with social enterprise GO has proved a great success. The project aims to deliver key skills training and support to individuals in the local community who are facing challenges or difficulties. A group of GO's clients have completed a 10-week programme covering key numeracy, literacy and digital knowledge and ability, aimed at developing their employability skills.

One student said: "I started this feeling really nervous, but now I have gained confidence. I have used a lot of what I have learnt in my work and life. I feel more confident when starting something new and I am excited about my learning and confidence.

"I have got better at spelling and confidence in life. I have learnt that taking time to answer is ok, and it doesn't matter if i get it wrong. For someone who has anxieties like me, this has really helped to lift me up. I feel welcomed at college, and it is like I am coming to a group of friends."

Another student added: "I have found everything useful and interesting. In English, I want to keep on studying. Conversational English has been great, really useful. I have learned a lot here at college and on English (ESOL) course. My English is not good, but the patience from the tutors that has been shown is amazing."

GO's general Manager Mike Bougourd is delighted with the outcomes of this inaugural programme: "The change in many of those who completed the 10-week introductory course in literacy, numeracy and digital skills has been amazing. Learners are more motivated to attend work; they have more confidence and are generally demonstrating stronger integration into society. I am looking forward to developing the programme with TGI College and to welcoming more groups in the future.”

This initiative forms part of TGI’s broader ‘Skills for Life’ community project which seeks to improve the levels of numeracy, literacy and digital skills across the Bailiwick though a wide variety of free courses, drop in sessions and workshops.
