Introduction

This module has been designed to enable the student to critically review related wellbeing and inclusion/EDI literature/supporting evidence and justify recommendations for initiatives/changes for their workplace/organisation based upon preparing a critical appraisal (PESTLE/PESTEL and SWOT analysis) to support these. Students will develop the ability to critically appraise local, national and international literature, policy and practice and consider how this is evaluated to produce recommendations that reinforce the key concepts of equality, diversity and inclusivity for employees in their workplace/organisation. Students will either focus on their workplace/organisation depending on their own employed role and responsibilities.


Module Overview

The student will have the opportunity to explore the following:

  • Key concepts of wellbeing (resilience, emotional intelligence and self-awareness)
  • Workplace wellbeing practices such as strategies, policies and initiatives
  • Key concepts of equality, diversity and inclusivity (such as race, ethnicity, gender, age, disability, neurodiversity, equity, belonging, accessibility)
  • Intersectionality and its impact on workplace experiences.
  • Cultural competence
  • Unconscious bias, microaggressions, systemic discrimination.
  • Neurodiversity, disability and reasonable adjustments
  • Inclusive Leadership
  • National/local legislation and policy re equality/discrimination and workplace rights
  • Political, culture and leadership impacts for good practice and policy -e.g freedom of speech
  • Equity and fairness for all e.g. positive discrimination – men’s mental health
  • Approaches to literature review
  • EDI influence on workplace wellbeing
  • Statistical data to enhance workplace wellbeing and EDI practices
  • Appraisal frameworks for identifying and justifying recommendations for wellbeing organisational change/workplace initiatives that are inclusive

Entry Requirements

Students accessing this programme will normally hold a relevant first degree (2:2 or above). Consideration will be given to applicants who have extensive experience and can demonstrate that they have the equivalent 'graduate level' skills by virtue of this experience. These individuals will be able to seek alternative entry through the accreditation of prior learning process. International students must demonstrate competence in English language through IELTS 6.5 (with minimum 6.0 in all components) or equivalent.
