Qualifications

  • City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Electrotechnical Technology
  • City & Guilds Level 3 18th Edition Certificate
  • City & Guilds Level 3 Award in the Initial Verification & Certification of Electrical Installations
  • Certificate of Apprenticeship

Course duration/location

The recommended time for completion of this course is five years. You will attend College at Coutanchez Campus for one day a week for off-the-job training.


Course Entry

Apprenticeships are available to all.

You will be assessed for suitability using a range of online tests with support and guidance offered where necessary.

If you have not achieved maths or English at C/4/Level 2, you will study these subjects to support progression and achievement of your apprenticeship. Failure to complete maths and English will prevent you from completing/achieving your apprenticeship.

Course Content

Your programme will cover:

  • Electrical principles associated with the design, building, installation, and maintenance of electrical equipment and systems
  • Health and safety legislation, practices, and procedures
  • Practices and procedures for overseeing and organising the work environment
  • Principles of planning and selection for the installation of electrotechnical equipment and systems in buildings, structures, and the environment
  • Preparation and installation of wiring systems and electrotechnical equipment
  • Termination and connection of conductors, cables, and cords in electrical systems
  • Application of health and safety legislation and working practices
  • Inspection, testing, commissioning, and certification of electrotechnical systems and equipment
  • Diagnosing and correcting electrical faults
  • Applying environmental legislation and understanding environmental technology systems
  • Planning, preparing, and installing wiring systems and associated equipment
  • Electrotechnical Occupational Competence (AM2 test)
