GradRoutes Guernsey

Introduction

GradRoutes Guernsey is a new initiative working to understand barriers young people face in returning to the island following higher education, and to showcase the wide variety of different career opportunities, in diverse industry sectors, that are available on island should they choose to return.

The initiative forms part of The Guernsey Institute’s Adult Skills Strategy which, by tackling skills gaps and supporting lifelong learning, aims to ensure that Guernsey remains as a vibrant, resilient community for all islanders.

If you have any questions, or you would like to know more about GradRoutes Guernsey, please contact Michelle Morley, Project Lead, at michelle.morley@tgi.ac.gg.

Job Opportunities for Graduates

If you’re starting your career, knowing where to look for jobs is half the battle. The good news is that Guernsey has plenty of places where employers advertise graduate roles and entry-level opportunities.

Here are some of the best places to start your search.

Local job websites Sites like Jobs.gg, Bailiwick Vacancies, Careers with the States of Guernsey, Careers Guernsey and the Guernsey Press Jobs section list opportunities and checking these sites regularly is a great way to see what’s available.

Recruitment consultants Recruitment agencies play a big role in Guernsey’s job market. Many companies work directly with recruiters to find graduates for trainee roles and junior positions, and recruiters can help match you with opportunities that fit your skills. Agencies include:

  • Alexander Daniels Offshore;
  • AP Personnel;
  • Firstcall Recruitment;
  • Itchyfeet Recruitment Agency;
  • Leapfrog Recruitment;
  • OSA Recruitment;
  • Situations Recruitment Agency;
  • Source Recruitment Specialists;
  • 1st Recruitment.

Company career pages Many employers advertise graduate roles and trainee programmes directly on their websites. If there are companies you’d love to work for, it’s worth visiting their careers pages to see what opportunities are available.

Social media Platforms like LinkedIn, Instagram and Facebook are increasingly used by Guernsey employers and recruiters to share job opportunities. Following local companies can be a great way to spot roles early.

Careers Guernsey Careers Guernsey is a valuable resource for students and graduates looking to explore career options on the island. They provide guidance on local industries, career pathways, and available opportunities.

Networking and Social

Returning to Guernsey after studying away can be daunting. You’re bringing back new ideas, new skills, and a fresh perspective, but one of the most important steps in building your career back on the island is reconnecting with people.

On an island like Guernsey, opportunities often start with a conversation. That’s why getting involved in professional, alumni and social networks can make such a difference.

Groups like Young Business Group (YBG), IoD Next Gen, and STEP Guernsey Next Gen host regular events that bring together young professionals from across industries. They’re a great way to meet people, hear from experienced leaders, and build relationships that can open doors as your career develops.

School alumni communities can also play a valuable role in helping graduates reconnect with people they grew up with, who may or may not have followed similar paths, and in learning from others who have built careers in Guernsey.

Networking doesn’t always happen in formal settings either. Social events and community activities also offer relaxed ways to meet new people and feel part of the island community again.

Guernsey’s close-knit community means connections happen quickly. By getting involved in professional groups, alumni networks, and social activities, you can build relationships that support both your career and your life on the island.
