With the support of educationalist experts launch your teaching career with our comprehensive PGCert in Teaching (PGCert) programme. TGI University Centre can offer pathways to become either a Primary (ages 5-11) or Secondary teacher.
- Sponsored PGCert: You may be entitled to a bursary of £19 000 to pursue your PGCert in Teaching. Contact us for more information.
- Expert-Led Training: During the PGCert in Teaching you will benefit from lectures that are specifically designed to ensure you have every opportunity to refine, develop, and embed your pedagogical understanding, ultimately empowering you to excel in your teaching practice. The lectures are designed and delivered by educational experts at TGI University Centre, in collaboration with Middlesex University.
- Immersive School Experience: You will obtain invaluable practical experience in at least two school placements. During the placements you will receive instructional coaching sessions and opportunities to observe experienced teachers to develop and refine your own practice.
- Guernsey Qualified Teacher (GQT) Status: On successful completion of the PGCert in Teaching you will achieve GQT status. This will enable you to teach in Guernsey Primary and Secondary Schools.
- Qualified Teacher Status: Upon successful completion of the PGCert in Teaching, and after nine months in a teaching position, you can apply for QTS with the Department for Education.
- Post-graduate Certificate in Teaching: On successful completion you will earn a PGCert in Teaching (60 credits) that you can use towards a Master’s degree, should you choose to pursue one. Contact us for more information
Entry Requirements
To apply for the PGCert in Teaching, you require the following qualifications:
- A second-class honours degree 2:2 or above.
- GCSE grade C / grade 4 mathematics and English.
- GCSE grade C / grade 4 English
- GCSE grade C / grade 4 Science (for applicants who choose the Primary pathway)
Please note: For secondary candidates, we recommend that at least 50% of your degree is directly relevant to the subject you wish to teach
International students whose first language is not English
You must have competence in English language to study with us. The most accepted evidence of English language ability is IELTS 6.5 (with minimum 6.0 in all components). Please click here for our English Language requirements.
