TGI is launching a pilot project in conjunction with social enterprise GO that aims to deliver key skills training and support to individuals in the local community who are facing challenges or difficulties. This new initiative aims to build GO’s clients’ key numeracy, literacy and digital knowledge and ability, which will develop their employability skills.
The pilot project was launched on Wednesday 5 November and will be run for two hours per week over three months. A group will attend separate English & maths and digital sessions focusing on skills development and practical application.
This initiative forms part of TGI’s broader ‘Skills for Life’ community project which seeks to improve the levels of numeracy, literacy and digital skills across the Bailiwick though a wide variety of free courses, drop in sessions and workshops. The programme includes both accredited and non-accredited courses appropriate for a wide range of ability.
Jane Fears, Director of Business Development for TGI College said:
“We are delighted to be working with GO on the first of what we hope will be a series of similar projects. Our programme of free sessions is proving popular. This particular initiative allows us to create a bespoke programme for this group with the long-term aim of improving their employability skills for their future work pathway.”
General Manager of GO, Mike Bougourd added:
“We’re thrilled and deeply grateful for the opportunity to support our trainees in advancing their education. The ‘Skills for Life’ initiative is a powerful and transformative project - one that holds the potential to uplift countless individuals who might otherwise face challenges alone. We believe in creating pathways to growth, and this programme is a meaningful step toward that vision.”
The key objectives of this programme are to:
- Develop comprehensive financial literacy skills
- Embed digital literacy skills into financial management and seeking employment / role development
- Enhance English communication abilities related to financial / employability contexts
- Build mathematical competencies for personal financial management
- Prepare students for future economic independence
