Qualifications

  • City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing
  • City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing
  • Certificate of Apprenticeship

Course duration/location

The recommended time for completion of this course is four years. You will attend College at Coutanchez Campus for one day a week for off-the-job training.


Course Entry

Candidates demonstrating real passion and motivation for the subject will be assessed for suitability through an informal interview, supported by a written reference from an employer.

If you have not achieved maths or English at C/4/Level 2, you will study these subjects alongside your apprenticeship. Failure to complete maths and English will prevent progression between apprenticeship levels or achieving your overall apprenticeship.

Entry to the Level 3 qualification depends upon successful completion of the Level 2 Diploma.

Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing

  • Style and finish hair
  • Set and dress hair
  • Cut hair using basic techniques
  • Colour and lighten hair
  • Advise and consult with clients
  • Shampoo, condition, and treat the hair and scalp
  • Develop and maintain your effectiveness at work
  • Cut men’s hair using basic techniques
  • Support the health, safety, and security of the salon environment

Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing

  • Creatively style and dress hair
  • Creatively cut hair using a combination of techniques
  • Creatively colour and lighten hair
  • Provide client consultation services
  • Hair colour correction services
  • Develop, enhance, and evaluate your creative hairdressing skills

Course Assessment

You will be assessed throughout the apprenticeship through a portfolio of evidence that includes:

  • Practical observations
  • Short answer question tests

Course Destination

After successfully completing your Level 3 apprenticeship, you will be able to apply for the Level 3 NVQ Barbering course and other courses offered by the industry.

This apprenticeship also prepares you for full-time employment, starting your own business, or offering your services in entertainment sectors like television, film, theatre, or the global cruise industry.
