Programme Introduction
Train to teach Further Education and Skills in Guernsey through our full-time programme in partnership with Portsmouth University. This programme will enable students to gain a nationally recognised qualification for Further Education and Skills, and on successful completion will be awarded QTLS.
If students have a level 3 qualification and (or if teaching a vocational qualification) several years’ of professional, vocational experience in their relevant subject area, plus a desire to help students begin their careers through further education, this Certificate in Further Education and Skills (CertEd) course will enable students to teach at college level, which is predominantly teaching students aged 16 and above.
Programme Content
Learn what you will study on the Further Education & Skills CertEd programme at the Portsmouth University website.
Teaching
On this programme, students will learn the most effective teaching techniques by spending time on teaching placements in real education settings and exploring teaching theory in lectures and seminars. Students will also develop subject-specific knowledge by working closely with course teachers and work-based subject mentors.
Students will gain experience of teaching in at least two further education settings and regular observations will be used to assess students’ progress towards meeting the Department for Education’s (DfE) standards. On successful completion of the CertEd, students can apply for QTLS through Society for Education and Training (SET).
Wherever and however students study, they will still do their teaching placements in person and be a student of the University of Portsmouth, so they will have access to all of our facilities and support.
