Guy Collins is an experienced healthcare educator, academic leader, and Registered Nurse with more than 30 years of experience across clinical practice, higher education, international development, and workforce transformation. Formerly a Senior Lecturer and International Academic Lead at the University of Derby, he has also held academic roles at the University of Staffordshire, contributing to programme and curriculum development, educational innovation, and professional learning across the healthcare sector.
With more than three decades of professional experience across nursing, healthcare, and higher education, he began his career in clinical practice before progressing into academic and leadership roles. As a UK NMC Registered Nurse, he has also holds qualifications as a Community Practitioner Nurse Prescriber, Specialist Practitioner in District Nursing, and Teacher, reflecting extensive expertise across clinical care, education, and professional practice.
His areas of expertise include nursing education, public health, simulation-based learning, digital education, disaster healthcare, workforce development, educational leadership, and substantive project and programme management. He has led the design, validation, and implementation of multiple academic programmes and curricula across undergraduate, postgraduate, and professional education settings. He has also initiated and developed strategic partnerships across Europe and internationally, supporting educational collaboration, student mobility, research activity, and institutional development.
A strong advocate for global engagement, he has worked extensively in international healthcare education. He led nursing education developments on the South Atlantic island of St Helena and has supported educational partnerships, student and staff exchanges, and collaborative projects in Cambodia, Ghana, India, Japan, Mexico, Nepal, and Tanzania, promoting cross-cultural learning, professional development, and the sharing of educational best practice.
Throughout his career, he has successfully led complex educational, workforce, and organisational development projects, applying effective project management principles to deliver sustainable outcomes across higher education and healthcare settings. He has secured and managed funding from a range of government, institutional, philanthropic, and international grant sources to support educational innovation, workforce development, partnership activity, student opportunities, and international collaboration. His work has enabled the delivery of projects that have enhanced learning, professional practice, and organisational capacity across diverse educational and healthcare environments.
He holds qualifications in Health Sciences, Community Health, Research Methods, and Disaster Healthcare, and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy/Advance HE.
In 2025, he was awarded Fellowship status within the Faculty of Remote, Rural and Humanitarian Healthcare (FRRHH) of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in recognition of his commitment to education, innovation, and healthcare development in diverse and often challenging settings.
Alongside his educational leadership, he has developed an extensive portfolio of publications in UK and international journals and has presented widely at national and international conferences. His scholarship focuses on healthcare education, simulation, public health, digital innovation, and professional practice, contributing to the advancement of healthcare education and workforce development both within the UK and internationally.
Currently serving as Micro-credentialling Lead at The Guernsey Institute, he is helping to develop flexible, employer-responsive learning opportunities that support lifelong learning, skills development, and economic growth.
